The Times Higher Education Rankings for the subject area ‘Clinical, Pre-clinical and Health’ has just been published. For the first time since the ranking was established in 2011, UCD has entered the top 100, being ranked 99th.
UCD is the first and only institution in Ireland to enter the top 100 globally in ‘Clinical, Pre-clinical and Health’. This reflects UCD’s particularly strong performance in two categories, ‘International Outlook’ and ‘Citations’. The international score is based on the proportion of international students and international staff in UCD, and collaboration with international partners on publications. The citations score is based on publications in the past 5 years and how frequently they are cited.
With regard to the citations, THE says “The citations help to show us how much each university is contributing to the sum of human knowledge: they tell us whose research has stood out, has been picked up and built on by other scholars and, most importantly, has been shared around the global scholarly community to expand the boundaries of our understanding, irrespective of discipline”.
Other measures contributing to the ranking are teaching, research and industry income. The ranking greatly enhances the recognition of UCD’s health and biomedical science programmes across the world and is a great credit to the academics and staff in UCD, its teaching hospitals and in the wider healthcare community.
