Study Abroad

The Study Abroad Programme at UCD School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems provides an exciting opportunity to advance your knowledge of nursing and midwifery while studying at one of Ireland’s leading universities.

We offer undergraduate study abroad courses in four areas -

  • General (Adult) Nursing
  • Mental Health Nursing
  • Children’s Nursing
  • Midwifery

As the oldest University School of Nursing & Midwifery in Ireland our aim is to provide students with the very best opportunities and supports to pursue studies in nursing, midwifery and to promote safe, efficient and person-centered professional practice.

Students may attend for the Fall semester, the Spring semester or the full academic year. We assist you with every aspect of the programme from your application, to module selection, accommodation, cultural adjustment and with becoming a UCD student during your time here. 

You can choose up to 6 modules for per Study Abroad semester. The majority of your modules must fall under Nursing and then you can also look at modules in other subject areas. Your Nursing modules will take first priority. 

Suggested Study Abroad modules to consider are:

  • Maternal and Foetal Wellbeing: NMHS32340, semester 1 & 2
  • Evidence Based Healthcare: NMHS31790, semester 1 & 2
  • Mangement and Quality Improvement: NMHS30290, semeseter 1
  • Social History of Irish Healthcare: NMHS10090, semester 1
  • Mental Health Nursing: NMHS32410, semester 1
  • Community and Population Health Nursing: NMHS32310, semester 2

*Please note, module availabilty is based on capacity, timetable clashes and overall student uptake.

The grading system at UCD is European. It is quite different from North American schools.  At UCD A,B,C are honors grades. D is a pass grade.

To be eligible for any UCD Study Abroad Programme, you should hold a GPA of 3.00. You must submit your transcript and a copy of your passport as part of the application process.

The UCD Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems Study Abroad Programme has a dedicated administrator who works with the UCD Centre for Study Abroad to help make student admission, registration and participation a smooth, efficient and enjoyable process.
