Topic: Nursing and Midwifery Factors Influencing Health Care Organisational Outcomes

It is recognised that the organisational context within which health care is delivered is an important and powerful
factor impacting nursing practice and health care outcomes. Over the past decade the Irish health care system
has experienced significant alterations across the full spectrum of its structures and processes and is now facing
significant challenges in recruiting and retaining registered nurses and midwives.
Professor Tourangeau’s research is concentrated within the broad field of nursing health systems with a primary
focused on identifying and measuring nursing-related determinants of health care outcomes, and knowledge
of nursing structure and nursing process factors that influence outcomes (e.g., patient safety, organizational
and nurse outcomes) and identification of strategies to manage these influencing factors and, thus, improve
