Five UCD undergraduate students have been selected to participate in the U21 Summer School at Shanghai Jaio Tong University in China, 4-18 July 2016. The theme of the summer school is ‘Traditional Chinese Medicine and its Culture.’ Participants will attend seminars with distinguished guest lecturers on topics ranging from Traditional Chinese Medicine to medical device engineering and manufacturing, and visit academic and commercial pharmaceutical labs. We asked the students what encouraged them to apply and what they expect from this summer school, here is what they had to say:

Joanne Chadwick, Stage 2 Midwifery student: “I’m back to education so I’m a bit older than the rest of the group. I decided when I came back that I was going to try and take every opportunity that UCD made available so I’m delighted that I got this. I’m doing Midwifery and obviously a lot of women [in China] don’t use traditional Western medicine when they are pregnant as it’s just not available to them. Instead they use acupuncture and massage so I’m really interested to see it from that point of view.”
