Children who have complex care needs require the very highest standard care, provided by specialist professionals. With advances in medicine and technology it is anticipated that the need for complex care services for children will continue to increase in the coming years. This programme is designed to support and develop the knowledge and skill base of professionals working with these children and their families.
The Professional Certificate in Complex Care for Children is designed for Registered Nurses and other Health Care professionals working with children and adolescents with complex or life limiting conditions.
The programme aims to provide students with the necessary in-depth evidence based knowledge, skills and competencies to provide quality care to highly dependent clients as they live with life-limiting illness and face end-of-life.
On successful completion of the programme, you will receive a Professional Certificate in Complex Care for Children from the UCD School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems. The programme is recognised nationally and is a highly regarded qualification for health care professionals caring for children with life limiting illnesses who require palliative and complex care.
The programme is delivered in a blended learning format, ensuring flexibility and responsiveness. On-line learning is facilitated through the UCD virtual learning platform ‘Brightspace’. Learners are provided with electronic course materials to guide their learning and reading, and progress through the programme workbook and complete study units . Learning is supported on-line through the use of discussion boards, and Brightspace virtual classroom. Two workshop days are run in UCD, where the subject matter experts meet the students. Learners will be challenged to apply their learning in practice.
This is a one trimester programme, running from January to May 2020. Assessments include completion of an E-tivity and an Assignment, as well as participation in an online Discussion Board throughout the trimester.
